Kathy Geyer

Environmental Specialist

Kathy Geyer started her career in environmental services right out of college working as a sanitarian for the Winnebago County Health Department. Later, she accepted a position as an Environmental Protection Specialist with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) in the Rockford Regional office, covering 12 geologically diverse counties. She became well versed in solid waste disposal while completing audits, enforcing state statutes and regulations, and writing reports with legal standing. She also worked as a project manager with state-funded environmental cleanup projects, keeping track of public funds and seeing that they were spent efficiently.

For the past 10 years, Kathy has taken an active role in the implementation of Illinois’ new Clean Construction and Demolition Debris (CCDD) disposal requirements. She drafted the checklists used by inspectors statewide, and met with trade groups, engineers, and other government agencies regarding CCDD compliance and operations. The experience of implementing these new regulations helped her successfully transition into onsite monitoring of road construction projects that fall under the Illinois DOT specifications for removal and disposal of regulated substances.

Kathy stays involved in her community. She served eight years on a school board for a large consolidated school district. She also went back to school herself, earning a postgraduate certificate in Paralegal Studies at Elgin Community College in December of 2015.
